Implementation of the Face Attendance System at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Pattimura

The Faculty of Law at Universitas Pattimura has begun implementing a face-to-face attendance system for lecturers and civil servants. The system will be implemented starting October 1, 2025, as announced by Dean Dr. Hendrik Salmon at the Faculty's 69th anniversary celebration on Friday, October 3.

Dr. Hendrik Salmon explained that this step was taken as a form of guidance and proper implementation of regulations for civil servants and lecturers. He stated that this system aims to shorten and enforce the integrity zone. Salmon also stated that a common phenomenon is students seeking lecturers for consultations outside of class hours. Therefore, with this system, lecturers are expected to be present at the faculty during class and office hours, Monday through Friday, to serve students.

Dr. Salmon explained that his office no longer uses the fingerprint system because it is easily camouflaged or manipulated. He believes that facial scans make manipulation impossible. He also stated that one of the benchmarks for international accreditation is the use of facial scans and the enforcement of civil servant discipline.

Dr. Salmon added that the implementation of the face-to-face attendance system had been publicized since mid-September. The Faculty of Law at Universitas Pattimura will be moving away from fingerprint attendance and toward facial scans in preparation for validation for international accreditation, which will take place in November.
