Unpatti Faculty of Law to Open Doctoral Program
Ambon – The Faculty of Law at Universitas Pattimura (Unpatti) Ambon plans to launch a doctoral program in 2013. The faculty has been developing this program for a long time and has gone through several stages and thorough preparation.
"We are working to improve the quality of our teaching staff. Hopefully, we can open a doctoral program next year. The requirement is a doctorate, and we have already reached approximately seven. Next year, we are working to recruit three or four more. So, we can open a doctoral program," Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law at Patti University, Jhon Dirk Pasalbessy, told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of new students for the 2012-2013 academic year, held at Baguala Resort on Friday (November 30).
Pasalbessy admitted that in order to achieve the plan to open the doctoral program, the Unpatti Faculty of Law is striving to improve quality, including increasing the resources within the faculty itself.
According to him, many preparations for the institution's future progress have been made, including addressing global developments. Last year, the Unpatti Faculty of Law received accreditation and received a B rating, approximately 0,4 points away from achieving an A.
This means that in 2014 the Faculty of Law will strive to achieve an A standard. If it achieves an A standard, then the answer to seeking international standards will be included.
Inauguration
Meanwhile, the Inauguration of New Students of the Faculty of Law, Unpatti, for the 2012-2013 academic year, was used as a momentum for self-introduction, both to previous students and to lecturers.
"This inauguration is held to introduce ourselves to students, the dean, and the lecturers. This is a faculty tradition that aims to improve the quality and intellectual well-being of the nation and state. This shouldn't be seen as a grand gesture, but rather as an official moment for students of the Unpatti Faculty of Law," he said.
He stated that, although this activity is a tradition, it must be respected. Furthermore, the inauguration included the recitation of the five pre-pledges, which have ethical principles, and violations of these five pledges will inevitably result in sanctions.
"We have ethics, with five pledges/promises for the duration of your time at the faculty. Violations will result in sanctions from the leadership, and they will be enforced without hesitation," Pasalbessy emphasized.
Therefore, new students are required to maintain their intellectual, moral, and mental qualities so that graduates of this faculty wherever they are will always and always remember the foster mother of their alma mater. Therefore, he hopes that the Unpatti Faculty of Law, as the oldest faculty in Unpatti, must maintain the ethics, morals, and tools as a Law Faculty student. "I hope this activity is a family activity. Therefore, we chose to hold it at Baguala Resort because it is a world of togetherness after three days of campus orientation or ospek.(S-27)
