Unpatti Faculty of Law Holds International Public Lecture on Marine Resource Management

The Faculty of Law, Universitas Pattimura, once again demonstrated its commitment to providing international-standard education through a hybrid public lecture on Friday, April 17, 2026. This activity took place at the Unpatti Faculty of Law Auditorium and was attended online via Zoom Meeting.

This public lecture was attended by hundreds of students in person in the auditorium and around 140 participants who joined online. The theme was “Marine Management on Small Island”. This activity presented an international resource person, Professor Amanda Brushett from Southern Cross University, Lismore, Australia.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Patti University, Prof. Dr. Adonia Ivonne Laturette, SH, MH, emphasized that this activity is part of the Legal Studies Program's efforts to provide students with a global-standard academic experience. He also stated that the presence of visiting lecturers from abroad will continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis to improve the quality of education within the Faculty of Law.

In her presentation, Prof. Amanda Brushett, a Professor in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University, explained that Indonesia, as a tropical country, boasts exceptional marine biodiversity. However, she also cautioned that the threat of marine pollution can directly impact the quality of seafood consumed by humans.

This public lecture was also attended by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Johanis Steny Franco Peilouw, SH, MH, Head of the Undergraduate Program in Law, Dr. Irma Halima Hanafi, SH, MH, and moderated by the Head of the International Accreditation Team (ACQUIN) of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Theresia Nolda Agnes Narwadan, SH, M.Hum.

The discussion was dynamic and interactive. The students' enthusiasm was evident in the numerous questions they asked the speakers. Prof. Brushett, who has conducted research in the waters off Namlea and Ambon, also encouraged students to take an active role as pioneers in environmental protection, starting with simple steps like not littering.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sherlock Halmes Lekipiouw, SH, MH, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs at the Unpatti Faculty of Law, stated that the public lecture was part of the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Universitas Pattimura and Southern Cross University, Australia. This activity also serves as a strategic step in supporting the Unpatti Faculty of Law towards achieving ACQUIN international accreditation.
