Unpatti,- The Unpatti Faculty of Law student debate team won 1st place in the Maluku Regional Police Legal Debate Competition between Faculty of Law students which was held in the context of the 78th Anniversary of Bhayangkara in 2024, which took place in the main meeting room of the Maluku Regional Police headquarters.
The debate, themed "Restorative Justice," is an approach to the criminal justice system that focuses on healing, reconciliation, and restoration of relationships damaged by criminal acts. This approach emphasizes addressing the root causes and the psychological, social, and emotional impacts of criminal acts on victims, perpetrators, and society as a whole.
The Faculty of Law student debate team consisting of Kristian.M.Maturbongs., Agnes.A.Sitanala., Ikha HR Khaliky will represent the Maluku Regional Police to participate in the East Indonesia Regional Legal Debate Competition which will take place from June 11-13, 2024 in Makassar which is also planned to be attended by 10 other Regional Police.
Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni of the Faculty of Law Dr. Johanis SF Peilouw, SH, MH expressed his appreciation for the achievements of the Faculty of Law students who won the Legal Debate Competition held by the Maluku Regional Police in a series of events leading up to the 78th Bhayangkara Anniversary in 2024.
He stated that two issues were raised in the debate: Restorative Justice and the Spread of Hoax News. "We have a Law Faculty Student Debate Activity Unit. They engage in many activities, practicing constantly and studying various topics and issues related to the field of law, which is why they frequently participate in various events," he said.
Dr. Peilouw hopes that students will continue to be given the opportunity and space to develop their knowledge through various competitions.
