Jokowi's victory in the first round of the Jakarta gubernatorial election on July 11, 2012, opened a new chapter in Indonesian politics. Jokowi was able to overthrow the results of several survey institutions that had previously been considered the most competent. Previous results had previously put Fauzy Bowo, also known as Poke, (the incumbent) far ahead of the other candidates. The people spoke differently; it turned out that Poke had to acknowledge Jokowi's superiority. A candidate from outside Jakarta was able to destroy the incumbent's defenses, whose popularity was unquestionable. The people were increasingly discerning and adept at reading the signs of the times. Poke had not been able to convince the people of Jakarta, who were the barometer of Indonesian politics.
Poke's vote was boosted by his incumbency. In the eyes of the people, power is no longer an instrument to undermine their sovereignty. The people have the right to make their own choices. The people are no longer easily intimidated. Survey results versus democracy are actually a barometer of the people's politics, morals, and conscience. The people can no longer be lied to. Survey theories and techniques have fallen at the gates of democracy. Survey indicators of success can no longer be used as the sole measure. The seeds of democracy are beginning to grow and blossom in the capital, their fragrance spreading throughout the country. Survey institutions must learn from Poke's defeat in this first round and refrain from easily making promises and uncertain hopes.
Jokowi is Extraordinary
Jokowi's meteoric rise was unexpected. The stark contrast overwhelmed political observers. Political scientists were confused, observing the actions of the people who were adept at defeating the incumbent. Jokowi was extraordinary because he was able to win the hearts of the people. The people needed a leader who understood their feelings, not their feelings. A leader who could implement radical change. Jokowi was able to silence the incumbent with conventional yet powerful political tactics. Jokowi's figure is a model of a contemporary and visionary leader today who is worthy of emulation. With simple methods, he was able to change the situation and mindset of the people of Jakarta to target foreign figures who were fighting for a mysterious territory of power. Jokowi's political dough was ripe and sold, because it was delicious and high-quality. He didn't talk much and made empty promises other than, come, sit, be quiet and feel the groans of the common people. The people of Jakarta who elected Jokowi firmly believed that Jokowi's presence would bring change.

Perhaps Jokowi fully understands Julius Caesar's famous slogan, "I came, I saw, and I conquered," 47 BC. Whether he realizes it or not, Jokowi is putting Julius Caesar's words into practice. He has been able to thwart political calculations and survey results, which often confuse the public. Jokowi has caused panic among the incumbent's team. A closed-door meeting was held after the quick count report showed that the political count was way off the mark. Jokowi understands the current state of anxiety that is permeating Jakarta society. With just a smile and polite body language, the people have turned to support a newcomer to the capital's political scene, which is rife with social ills. The people of Jakarta are indeed intelligent in making their choices. They need a contemporary and visionary leader with high integrity. Good luck and success in the second round, the candidate for Governor of Change.
